DIY Driftwood Furniture Finish

Hi Loves!
I finished up a few projects just before the holiday season that I got so busy I forgot to share!  First up are these beauties...
I tested out several techniques to achieve a driftwood
finish on wood without having to strip, sand, or prime.  It doesn't get any easier than that.
Check out my tried, and tried again, paint steps to achieve this look.

Rustic Patio Spruce-Up on a Budget

Hey Loves!!  Long time, no see!

We have been busy living over here and sadly, IG took over for the quick fix.  Call me nostalgic, but I wanted to pop on here and share a few ways I hooked up our little spare patio space for Summer and let's face it, for Fall because it stays pretty warm here up until November.

DIY Wood Fireplace Screen

Hi there!  Are you getting ready for Christmas?? I have been non stop it seems and just need to slow down time to take in my favorite time of the year.  I think I say this every December.

I'm sharing a quick and so simple fireplace screen I made in less than 5 minutes with 2 items!  Our fireplace is big, and in when it's not being used, it can look like a big black hole in the family room. I love a nice wood stack fireplace.  I admire a wood slice screen,  I just don't feel like making it!
I stumbled on the best solution:  Contact paper.

How To Make an Oversized Wall Sign: A DIY Christmas Trees Sign

It is officially the Christmas Season!

I love the prep of the season and it just goes too fast every year.  I am not loving the decorating madness I am knee deep in though.  I have taken a different approach and just selected what I want to put out now, and I am packing up the rest.  (Kind-of a "shopping at home" type of decorating!)

I have a huge problem with making new decorations every year and not donating old stuff, anyone else do this?

How to Make a Framed Chalkboard Wall

Got a big blank wall?  Love chalkboards like I do?
Okay, I may be slightly obsessed with them and I blame it on the fact that I'm a teacher's daughter.  I went to the same grade school my mom taught at and would hang in her classroom after school until she could leave.  Of course I spent the whole time drawing on her chalkboards and playing school!  So fast forward to the present, I have a lot of chalkboards, okay?

Faux Brick Tutorial

Welcome Guys!
I miss Summer!  I love, love, love it!  I am not one of those parents who gripe with all that "can't wait for school to start"  business.  You can keep the homework, lunches, and sports.  I can't get enough of the freedom.  However, my DIY addiction takes a back seat to the kiddos and the one good part of Fall is I can finally get back to business over here.  First "step"  (no pun intended) was to finish our front landing.  Check out my faux brick makeover!!
I painted it guys!

Okay, the background.
Our home has 6 brick steps to the front door.  At the top is a plain old cement landing.  Because our house is north facing, (which is great for a sunny backyard) it makes for an extremely dank front yard sometimes.  (Think shade and lots of mold).  The landing out front turned brown and moldy, and I have struggled with trying to make it less dingy for years.  I immediately thought a brick pattern would tie in the steps and be perfect here!
After a good power-washing, I decided that I had to have chevron brick somehow.

DIY Patio Cushion Covers

Hi loves!

Does anyone else start a project with the idea that since you need to replace something anyway, why not try a little experiment, and if it fails, just go get the replacement? This is the initial thought for every one of my DIY projects.  I only share the experiments that work.  😀

To stencil the edge, I just used one of the bricks from the stencil repeatedly.

Bamboo Bar Cart Makeover

Welcome!  I am dusting off the blog today!  I am beyond guilty of neglecting this little corner of the web, but sometimes I get in a rut!  Is anybody still reading blogs?  I will admit that I neglect my favorite bloggers thanks to Instagram... it's just too easy to scroll through and see what's what.  Anyway, thanks for stopping over!

Isn't this serving cart adorable?
It ended up being the inspo I needed to get the back porch Summer-ready.

Full Hands, Fuller Heart

So this may be less of a decorating / DIY post than usual, but the reality is that my real job is "mom."

Once upon a time in my life, I had five kids ages 9 and under.  If I had a dollar for every time someone told me I had my "hands full," or " you're busy," or my favorite: "God Bless Ya, I don't know how you do it!"  -I'd have college for all 5 kids paid for by now.  Honestly, I found this extremely offensive back then, and would have to bite my tongue from spurting out a nasty reply to these folks.

But something happened over the years, and I started to feel empowered by these comments.  I embraced the fact that I could handle something that these "average" ladies just could not.   Confession:  I still feel that way.  I do.  I don't get offended by the remarks.  I am so proud that I have these five gorgeous children (and still fit in my skinny jeans) and have grown to accept and embrace people's insecurities that they project toward others.

Budget-Friendly Boho Inspired Finds to Update Any Room

I'd be a liar if I said I don't crave Spring right now.  Once I packed up all of the cold weather / Valentine decorations,  I was more than ready for a simple, clean, fresh start.
I just finished up some wallpaper in the Family Room.  It's very Scandinavian of me ;)  I'm in love with the way this transformed the family room.  It went from just, "meh" to "WOW!"   I used Beacon House's Scandinavian Block Print Tulip in blue.  Now, this wallpaper is not pre-pasted, so I knew it would be a witch to hang, just like my foyer ceiling was.  But the quality is fabulous.  I've had cheap paper tear and stretch when hanging it up, but this is sturdy and thick.  I covered only the wall around the fireplace and it's just what we needed to carry the blue from the kitchen cabinets through, since both are visible at the same time.

Chalkboard Sign Giveaway

Happy Sunday Loves!

Today, this is short and sweet.  I just want to share the Chalkboard Sign I made for my 5 year Blogiversary.  For one follower, it's yours!

I love this saying and feel like it serves as a great reminder to everyone in the home!

This was so easy to make.  Now,  I'm not talking anybody into using Chalk Couture, nor am I compensated in any way for sharing this, I just use it and love it.  I made this distressed-look sign using Chalk Couture products and a perfectly vintage store-bought frame.

It was seriously 3 steps and it was finished!  Chalk Couture is removable but I clear coated this one to make it permanent.
